Description Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP is seeking an organized and motivated paralegal with two to three years of experience in collections, guardianship, or related litigation support to join our Binghamton, NY practice. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with attorneys handling a high-volume caseload involving delinquent nursing home accounts and related matters, while playing a key role in case management from intake through resolution. This is a full time position (37.5 hours per week) with competitive benefits. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable managing deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and committed to providing excellent client service. Candidates with experience in basic collections, healthcare-related collections, guardianship proceedings, or matters involving Medicare, Medicaid, or insurance coordination are strongly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist attorneys in managing and collecting a large caseload of delinquent nursing home accounts. Prepare and draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, petitions, letters, stipulations, proposed orders, subpoenas, and discovery materials. Assist attorneys with preparation for court appearances, hearings, and conferences. Maintain regular communication with clients, debtors, opposing counsel, courts, and managing attorneys. File court documents electronically and maintain familiarity with e-filing procedures in various courts. Maintain and organize case files, including indexing pleadings and organizing exhibits and deposition materials. Track deadlines, court dates, and calendars to ensure timely case progression. Schedule meetings, hearings, and conferences. Enter and finalize billable time entries as required. Conduct basic legal and factual research and respond to routine inquiries. Provide additional administrative and litigation support as needed Requirements Qualifications and Skills Minimum of 2–3 years of paralegal experience, preferably in collections, guardianship, or litigation support. Experience with collection matters or healthcare-related accounts preferred. Understanding of coordination of benefits involving Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong organizational and math skills with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Professional demeanor and client-service orientation. Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
