Description:

Harrison Pensa is currently recruiting for a Paralegal (Contract-18 Months, Full Time) to support our Integrated Recovery Services Department. We are seeking a candidate who is self-driven and motivated who can also thrive in a high-volume and fast-paced environment.
Integrated Recovery Services oversees matters pertaining to highly specialized Creditor’s Rights and is responsible for high volume commercial and consumer debt recovery legal work.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE IDEALLY HAS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary in Paralegal, Law Clerk Diploma or related discipline;
  • 1-3 years’ experience;
  • Experience attending settlement conferences are an asset;
  • Understanding of Civil Litigation process including the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure;
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail and time-management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced environment, adjusts to changing priorities, and multi-tasking skills;
  • Ability to work as a team player and independently;
  • Efficient self- starter and quick learner;
  • Courteous, client focused and professional attitude;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Legal Industry Software.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Responsibilities:

  • Handle Small Claims Court Litigation, including settlement conferences, motions, trials, Judgment Enforcements and Subrogation;
  • Prepare drafting of pleadings, affidavits, court forms, memos, correspondence, etc.;
  • Drafting of complex motions for Superior Court;
  • Research and interpret legal procedures, statutes, and regulations applicable to practice area;
  • Pre-settlement negotiations with respective parties once the file is defended;
  • Ability to produce high quality work under strict timelines and limitation periods;
  • Communicating to internal and external parties regarding ongoing file management;
  • Arrange for service and filing of court documents;
  • General file management procedures;
  • Assist other lawyers and staff within the practice group when necessary;
  • Other duties as required.
