PARALEGAL/LAW CLERK

Our client is seeking an experienced Intermediate to Senior Law Clerk to join their high-volume litigation team at their Markham head office. The successful candidate will have strong working knowledge of litigation processes, the ability to manage files independently, and experience supporting a fast-paced legal environment. Prior experience in legal recoveries and real estate litigation is considered an asset. Familiarity with the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, Small Claims Court Rules, and exposure to litigation rules in Alberta and British Columbia is also beneficial.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law Clerk diploma or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a busy litigation law firm
  • Proficient in ACL5, Microsoft Office Suite, and legal CRM systems
  • Knowledge of Ontario litigation and Small Claims Court procedures
  • Exposure to Alberta and BC civil litigation rules is a strong asset
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication, time management, and client service skills
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative legal team
Responsibilities
  • Draft and manage litigation documents including pleadings, affidavits, motion records, and enforcement materials
  • File and serve legal documents in accordance with Ontario’s Rules of Civil Procedure and Small Claims Court Rules
  • Maintain accurate case data in ACL5 and other legal CRM platforms (e.g., Clio)
  • Support counsel through all phases of litigation, including enforcement actions
  • Manage the legal calendar, including hearings, court deadlines, and limitation periods
  • Maintain and update client-specific legal trackers, and support weekly/monthly portfolio reviews
  • Liaise with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, and process servers
  • Assist with enforcement processes including default judgments, garnishments, and writs
  • Provide support across files in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, where applicable
