JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented Real Estate Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will prepare legal documents for Alberta Residential and Commercial Real Estate transactions, adhere to trust conditions and maintain matter files. Candidates without BC Residential Real Estate experience must be willling to learn it quickly.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience with AB Residential Real Estate (at least 3 years) handling on average
  • In-depth knowledge of Alberta Real Estate legal requirements for sales, purchases, refinances, transfers, leases and real property in estates.
  • Familiarity with BC Real Estate a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Proficiency in administrative tasks and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and document drafting
  • Knowledge of Unity, FCT, Prolegis required
  • Familiarity with matter management software, Clio a plus
  • Experience with Wills and Estates a plus

Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities for end to end management of Alberta and BC residential real estate matters including:

  • developing and maintaining business development relationships

  • managing inquiries including giving quotes for inquiries
  • opening files (digital and physical)
  • performing administrative and legal tasks related to real estate matters such as couriers, banking, receiving and disbursing funds
  • billing and accounting for all real estate matters including management of WIP
  • schedule signing appointments with clients and lawyers, entering closing dates in calendars and system
  • reporting to clients, lenders and others as required
  • documenting matter status and tasks in the practice and document management systems, ensuring practice management system (Clio) is accurate and maintained in compliance with firm policies and procedures
  • document real estate processes and procedures
  • ensure deficiencies are managed expediently
  • closing files on a timely basis
  • managing the real estate practice area projects
  • train other team members in real estate tasks and responsibilities as required and oversee satelite or remote team members

  • Organize and maintain legal files and documents (NetDocuments)

  • Perform data entry tasks accurately and efficiently using firm’s real estate application (Prolegis)
  • Handle clerical tasks including filing, photocopying, and scanning documents
  • Maintain professionalism in all communications and phone interactions
  • Provide coverage and support to other practice areas as required
