We currently have an opportunity for a Paralegal within our Australia specialist contract review team. This team assists our Corporate Counsel with reviewing contracts such as tender documents, professional services and consultancy contracts. We are seeking an individual with previous experience in a legal, commercial or contracts environment (construction, infrastructure or engineering would be a bonus!) who can:

  • Review and assess contracts proposed by clients or subconsultants and identify key clauses for negotiation.
  • Liaise with the business with respect to negotiating key clauses.
  • Deal with general contract queries from the business units
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We currently have an opportunity for a Paralegal within our Australia specialist contract review team. This team assists our Corporate Counsel with reviewing contracts such as tender documents, professional services and consultancy contracts. We are seeking an individual with previous experience in a legal, commercial or contracts environment (construction, infrastructure or engineering would be a bonus!) who can:

  • Review and assess contracts proposed by clients or subconsultants and identify key clauses for negotiation.
  • Liaise with the business with respect to negotiating key clauses.
  • Deal with general contract queries from the business units.

There will also be the opportunity to get involved with assisting Corporate Counsel with claims and disputes as well as implementing process improvements to ensure an efficient and “fit for purpose” contract review function. This role can be based in either our Sydney or Brisbane office.

DAY TO DAY TASKS WOULD INVOLVE:

  • Completion of contract reviews, against existing company guidelines, to mitigate any potential legal risk to Stantec.
  • Undertake legal research for the APAC Risk Management team.
  • Assist with review of project correspondence on claims.
  • Preparation of legal documents, forms and contracts.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL FOR THIS ROLE YOU’LL NEED:

  • Be keen to learn and curious about the meaning and effect of contract clauses.
  • Be well organised and be comfortable with taking ownership of all tasks while managing deadlines that constantly change.
  • Have strong drafting skills and attention to detail when reviewing and assisting with legal documents.
  • Have strong communication skills with a positive and proactive attitude and ability to connect with stakeholders throughout the business.
  • Enjoy working in a close team environment, having a warm and friendly approach.
  • Prior law firm, in-house experience or experience in a contract management or review role is essential and will be highly regarded.
