JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Managing Paralegal, the Paralegal is tasked with addressing a diverse set of legal matters within the Legal team. The Paralegal will work closely with Bank attorneys and various other Bank personnel to provide legal assistance in one or more of the following areas: collections, garnishments, bankruptcy, litigation, and general transactional support. RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide support to the legal team in handling a comprehensive scope of legal matters. * At the direction of Bank attorneys and the Managing Paralegal, provide assistance on legal matters. * Research legal issues and statutes/regulations and brief Bank attorneys and management on research and recommendations. * Provide recommendations and legal support relating to potential litigation, bankruptcy matters, loan documentation, secured transactions, and lender rights, remedies, and recourse. * Assist in engaging and handling local counsel and handling litigation; maintain litigation report and keep updated from input/discussions with lender and local counsel. * Assist in legal review of loan documents and contracts/agreements. Evaluate the exposure and risks of identified deficiencies and comply with loan policy, regulatory requirements, and agency (SBA, USDA, etc.) guidance for lo an origination and servicing. * Assist in contract reviews for Bank’s third-party vendors, as needed. * Assist in the development of streamlined and improved procedures and processes and recommend safeguards and improved efficiencies to minimize risk exposure. * Assist in maintaining corporate formalities as it pertains to the Bank’s various corporate entities. * Maintain solid understanding of all legal and regulatory compliance issues as they pertain to this position. * Complete all required training. * Assist on special projects, as needed. REQUIREMENTS * Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. * Literacy in English. * Ability to sit for extended periods of time, twist, bend, sit, walk use hands to twist, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, such as computer mouse, computer keyboard, calculator, stapler, telephone, staple puller, etc., reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, or hear. * Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. QUALIFICATIONS * Paralegal Degree or Certificate preferred. * 2-3 years of paralegal work experience. * Background in corporate law, secured transactions, commercial transactions, litigation, collections, creditors’ rights, and/or bankruptcy. * Experience serving banks or financial institutions, either in-house or through a law firm, preferred. * Meticulous attention to detail. * Strong critical thinking and analytic skills. * Ability to synthesize information and communicate efficiently and effectively with attorneys, management, and other financial professionals. * Outstanding legal research and writing skills. * Very resourceful, organized, and ability to prioritize and handle a large workload of diverse matters independently.
