Description Berkeley County is West Virginia’s fastest growing county, and the Berkeley County Emergency Ambulance Authority is growing too! We are a 911 EMS agency and the sole provider of emergency medical services for the county apart from the City of Martinsburg. We operate 10 units daily across 6 stations and respond to about 15,000 calls for service every year. We pride ourselves in maintaining a modern fleet, equipment, and facilities along with high quality training provided to our staff monthly to help our clinicians continue to grow. Job Overview The primary duty of this role is direct patient care in the 911 EMS setting. The Paramedic is typically the highest trained provider on the ambulance and is therefore the lead for the crew. The Paramedic does not directly supervise an EMT but they will direct the EMT with orders and requests during patient care as needed. The schedule for this position is two 24 hour shifts per week which equals 96 hours per 2 week pay period. The BCEAA schedule is 24/48 rotation with a Kelly day every 7 shifts. Requirements Education Must be at least 18 years of age High School Diploma or Equivalent Successful completion of a WV or Nationally accredited Paramedic program Certifications & Licenses Paramedic (WV or National Registry) CPR for Healthcare Providers Emergency Vehicle Operators Certification (EVOC) Hazardous Materials Awareness Level Infection Control Valid US Driver’s license with no more than 6 points assessed to driving record Skills and Abilities The ability to communicate effectively via telephone and radio The ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations The ability to read, interpret and act upon patient care protocols The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in high stress scenarios Physical Requirements The ability to independently lift 140 pounds safely Must have good manual dexterity with the ability to perform all tasks related to patient care. The ability to stand, walk, crawl, lift, bend over, stoop, climb stairs and work in environments where space may be severely limited The ability to work in moderate to severe weather The ability to spontaneously respond to the demands of emergency health care The ability to wear proper PPE including an N-95 face mask or respirator when working in an IDLH environment Responsibilities and Duties Works assigned tour of duty at the appropriate station. Provides Basic and Advanced Life Support Services. Responds to EMS incidents and assists in emergency activities. Drives and operates ambulances in emergent and non-emergent situations. Keeps records and makes reports of patient interactions. Maintains & repairs EMS tools & appliances. Services motorized EMS apparatus as directed. Operates EMS equipment. Cleans, maintains, and makes minor repairs to EMS equipment. Participates in routinely scheduled in-service training. Performs other related tasks as required or requested. May become a trainer for students and new hire employees. Additional Requirements Successful of a nationally accredited Paramedic training program and the National Registry Paramedic cognitive and psychomotor examination.
