Responsibilities Provides quality patient care utilizing a thorough knowledge and appropriate administration of ACLS protocols and the Paramedics role in patient care for patients of all ages in the Emergency Department. Diagnoses and treats emergency medical situations with appropriate techniques, resources, and equipment, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care according to the current hospital protocol. Maintains thorough knowledge of current Paramedic standards of care along with equipment use and function. Documents care consistent with documentation guidelines. Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services. Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization. Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, standards development and review, hospital committees and other related activities. Qualifications Education: Successful completion of a Paramedic program. License(s)/Certification(s): Iowa Paramedic Certification Basic Life Support, ACLS, and PALS, refer to Job Description Addendum. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain effective interpersonal relationships, adapt to change, evaluate critically and think creatively. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all ages. Must demonstrate effective communication skills. Other: Electronic and mechanical patient care equipment, office equipment, medications, including controlled substances and therapeutic gases.
