JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P) provides direct patient care, within the scope of the Texas Paramedic/EMT Practice Act and under the direction of the Registered Nurse, in the Emergency Department. As an ER Advanced Care Tech, you perform a variety of functions for patients requiring urgent or emergency attention. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic (EMT-P), or Emergency Medical Paramedic (EMP) - Current Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic / Licensed Paramedic required
  • Minimum 1 year 911 System or hospital ED experience required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt, or PALS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date

Responsibilities
  • You will assist with obtaining and documenting vital signs and placement of oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
  • You will assist with other technical functions such as: obtaining 12-lead EKGs, discontinuation of peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks and maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Performs venipuncture, administers and maintains IV fluids and medications in accordance with Hospital practice guidelines. Correctly labels, calculates and regulates the flow of IV solutions. Documents pertinent information related to IV therapies. You will assist with patient care and treatments including positioning patients, application of sterile dressings, immobilization of extremities, cast and splint applications.
  • You will complete basic psychomotor skills and activities related to care.
  • You will assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters and nasogastric tubes.
  • You will clean and stock carts, rooms, and change linen as required.
  • You will provide written instructions and/or educational materials to patients and family members.
