Function A paraprofessional performs the tasks established in Individualized Education Plans to improve socially significant behaviors that support interdependent student-centered classrooms that promote discourse and collaboration under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher and Building Principal/Special Education Director.Essential ResponsibilitiesIncorporates specific educational objectives into the context of on-going activities, as appropriateFacilitates opportunities for generalization and maintenance of skillsCommunicates with students parents via communication logMaintains a student notebook in a neat and orderly mannerMaintains student specific materials and reinforcersSchedules activities as directedReviews progress on IEP goalsParticipates in writing students progress reportsUpdates students guidelinesDiscusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs.Presents subject matter to students, utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role playing.Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.May need assistance with toileting and liftingStudent may have behavior issues, medical conditions, work completion, elopement risks, aggression, and need de-escalation.Reliable and consistent attendanceHelp facilitate communication and social emotional skills.Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma;Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Three (3) exceptions to this particular qualification:Those hired before January 1, 1999Those with certification as a TA in another state,Those with an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree AND who have completed coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards. The district decides whether coursework or other training is consistent with the teacher assistant program standards.Meet one (1) of the following requirements:Successfully pass the ParaPro Assessment. ORComplete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education ORObtain an associate’s or higher degree
