Helping kids, families and communities thrive since 1932. www.macaulaycentres.org [http://www.macaulaycentres.org/] To learn more, watch our video here [https://youtu.be/YwDXaqT3XDo?si=lIT9hD1d5UD7YCON]  ----------------------------------------  Parent Education and Support Worker Temporary full time HOURS OF WORK:                 35 Hours/Week START DATE/TERM:              Immediate - March 31, 2026 OPENINGS:                             3 REPORTS TO:                        Supervisor, Family Education & Support Programs ---------------------------------------- POSITION SUMMARY: The Parent Education and Support Worker promotes effective parenting/caregiving and child development by providing parent support and education through evidence-based parenting techniques and early child development strategies and by providing information, referral and facilitated access to community resources to isolated, high need/high-risk parents of children birth to six years, including prenatal women in a variety of languages.  ---------------------------------------- RESPONSIBILITIES: * Conduct a range of outreach activities to reach vulnerable families and liaise with other agencies to reach and meet the needs of families, including high risk/isolated families * Provide home visits in accordance with program protocols * Provide service in collaboration with public health nurses for Healthy Babies Healthy Children referrals * Establish relationship with families and work with them to identify needs and goals * Implement strategies to facilitate the early identification of children’s special needs (such as developmental screening) * Carry out a range of educational activities to promote optimal development and well-being of children and model appropriate parenting skills * Provide information on parenting, child development and child guidance through 1:1 family home visits and parenting sessions in group settings * Provide and promote social support, including the development of parent networks * Link and accompany parents and children to community programs and services * Communicate respectfully and responsively with families, parents, caregivers and children. * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community services and resources to support families * Mentor or supervise students and volunteers * Perform other tasks as delegated or assigned  QUALIFICATIONS: * Strong parenting skills * Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of families living under stress * Knowledge of child development and parenting skills and issues * Demonstrated extensive knowledge of community resources * Experience designing and facilitating workshops and group training sessions for adults *  Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and a second language required * Excellent interpersonal and listening skills * Computer literacy * Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities * Ability to work independently and as a member of a team * Ability to work all shifts: day, evening and weekend hours as required * Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize * Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification * Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check ---------------------------------------- SALARY: Parent Education and Support Worker Salary Scale (starting at $27.32/ $49,716 per annum) with Competitive Benefits Package (health & dental) and paid time off entitlements (starting at 20 vacation days & 3 float days). ---------------------------------------- THIS POSITION IS WITHIN THE CUPE LOCAL 2563 BARGAINING UNIT.
