Description
SCOPE OF POSITION: This position will be responsible for home education, guidance, and instruction on high quality parenting, care of infants and toddlers.  The Parent Educator will perform day to day tasks of the Home Visiting Program.   SUPERVISION:  The Parent Educator will work under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, who will provide guidance, supervision and conduct performance evaluations   DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  1. Provides in home parent education to program families utilizing the parenting curricula available. 2. Responsibility to transport families (especially those families on Level 1), when necessary, using proper child and adult restraints. 3. Must complete Parents as Teachers required model and foundation trainings and pass certification. 4. Assists in strengthening parent-child interaction through improving parenting skills and by modeling appropriate activities during each home visit as measured by case progress notes. 5. Maintains a minimum of 80% completed home visits for active clients as required by individual levels. 6. Establish a maintain a trusting relationship with at-risk families by initiating regular client contact. 7. Motivates and encourages families to attend program’s support/education groups. 8. Establish a Family Support Plan with goals, objectives and activities with supervisor within 90 days of receipt of signed participant agreement. 9. Meets with supervisor weekly for case management and reflective supervision of all families on caseload. 10. Plans and prepares for visits prior to home visit being completed. 11. Documentation of all home visits will be completed. 12. Documentation of all home visits will be completed within two working days of making the home visit. 13. Attends regular staff meetings, case conferences, in service training and other meetings as required. 14. Adheres to all policy and procedures of the program and hiring agency. 15. Participates in continuing education training (at least 4 hours monthly) and shares knowledge with other team members. 16. Assists as a team player with CQI Projects. 17. Evaluates core competencies individually and sets goals to progress. 18. Assists with development of policy and procedures. 19. Keeps supervisor fully informed of activities, pertinent issues, upcoming events, and potential problems.   QUALIFICATIONS:  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent to 2-year degree preferred. 2. Parent Educator certification preferred. 3. Must have 2 years paid work experience working with infants and young children. 4. Maintain evidence-based certification. 5. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. 6. Must be highly motivated, self-initiating, and trustworthy. 7. Must have a Valid Driver’s License. 8. Must meet insurance requirements. 9. Will be required to pass a Tribal, Federal, and State background check upon selection. 10. Will be required to complete and pass a Drug Test upon selection.   POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  1. May require lifting up to 50 pounds or more. 2. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. 3. Required ability to set priorities and to work a flexible work schedule. 4. Must interact with culturally diverse children, adults, and community in a competent, respectful manner. 5. Must have the ability to remain calm, be patient, and make sound decisions in the case of emergency situations and difficult conditions. 6. Must be able and willing to field after-hours clients’ needs as required in urgent situations. 7. Must be able to withstand driving for a minimum of four hours per day, while traveling to client’s homes.
