  • Excellent communication skills
  • Empathy and trauma awareness
  • Ability to effectively work with a culturally diverse range of Parents, employers, education and community service providers, and staff
  • Excellent writing skills to write resumes, cover letters, assessments, referrals and case notes
  • Strong Labour Market knowledge
  • A minimum Certificate III in a relevant field (including Social Work, Community Services, Education, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health or Society and Culture) or Certificate IV in Employment Services or Career Development or demonstrated equivalent experience and willing to work towards a relevant Certificate III or IV qualification

Responsibilities

How will a Parent Mentor assist parents through servicing of this program?

  • Person-centred case management for eligible parents with young children
  • Address vocational and non-vocational needs
  • Supporting parents’ aspirations through tailored expertise and referring parents to internal and external services for further support where required
  • Engage with community organisations to develop strong opportunities
  • Provide a calm, respectful, welcoming, and child friendly service to maintain engagement
  • Practice an empathetic approach towards parents and their circumstances to help build trusted relationships to achieve positive outcomes.
