POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Parks South and the general direction of the Leadhand (Cemetery), carries out general labouring and operating duties at Mountain View Cemetery. MAJOR TASKS: Prepares grave sites for both opening and closing. Participates in funeral proceedings, as required. Participates in burials and disinterments. Maintains cemetery grounds, buildings, monuments, etc. Operates various types of equipment. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Secondary school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform disinterments Must be capable of issuing and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions Must have the ability to converse with the public in a tactful, courteous manner Must be reliable and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence, or equivalent Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation Must have a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it applies to this work CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Weekend work is occasionally required Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified) Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) General Information: As an equal opportunity employer, the City of Thunder Bay encourages applications from Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority groups, women and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
