Responsibilities

DRIVING, EQUIPMENT OPERATION, AND ASSOCIATED DUTIES:

  • Drive and maintain the allocated vehicle, trailer, tractor, or ride-on mower and ensure all passengers and loads are secure.
  • Adhere to drivers’ daily checks, accident/incident procedures, and complete all required documentation, including tachograph compliance.
  • Conduct basic vehicle and equipment maintenance, keeping them clean and safe for use.
  • Load and unload vehicles, moving equipment and materials such as mowers, barrows, plants, and horticultural tools.
  • Use technology and equipment, such as digital cameras and communication systems, to enhance job efficiency.

GARDENING AND HORTICULTURAL DUTIES:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of all park locations, carrying out tasks such as sweeping, hoeing, raking, mowing, edging, hedge cutting, and pruning.
  • Remove litter, rubbish, and hazardous materials to keep public spaces clean and safe.
  • Maintain games areas by spiking, scarifying, top-dressing, fertilising, marking, and erecting/dismantling posts.
  • Care for fine turf areas, such as bowling greens and cricket squares, and maintain stock levels of equipment and materials.
  • Use powered hand tools and light plant equipment to carry out various duties, including the planting of trees, shrubs, and plants.
  • Perform horticultural and arboricultural tasks, including soil cultivation, manuring, seed sowing, and the development of horticultural schemes.
  • Assist with the control of invasive species, pests, and diseases using appropriate methods, including chemical control.
  • Work with community groups, volunteers, and others to maintain community gardens, allotments, and other facilities.
  • Support the preparation and running of events on site, collecting and reporting user information as required.
