Who The Client Is: This is a small bookkeeping team providing professional, personalised services tailored to each business’s needs. Led by an experienced practitioner with over 15 years in the industry, the firm focuses on best-practice processes, compliance, and efficient financial management using modern cloud-based systems. They support clients across a wide range of industries, including hospitality, construction, trades, professional services, healthcare, events, and not-for-profits. Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Australian Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial records and support accurate, compliant reporting across the business. This role is responsible for maintaining clean accounts, ensuring compliance with Australian tax and payroll requirements, and supporting cash flow and financial decision-making. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Australian bookkeeping standards, works confidently with cloud accounting systems, and can manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities: Core Bookkeeping Maintain accurate financial records in line with Australian standards Process income, expenses, journals, and reconciliations Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations Maintain general ledger accuracy and resolve discrepancies Accounts Payable & Receivable Process supplier invoices and schedule payments Issue customer invoices and monitor receivables Follow up overdue accounts and support cash flow Payroll & Superannuation (if applicable) Process payroll in compliance with Australian legislation Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting Calculate and process superannuation, PAYG, and leave entitlements BAS, GST & Compliance Prepare and assist with BAS lodgements Manage GST, PAYG, and IAS obligations Ensure compliance with ATO reporting deadlines Reporting & Support Prepare monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) Assist with month-end and year-end close activities Liaise with accountants or BAS Agents as required Systems & Process Improvement Use and maintain cloud accounting systems (Xero) Maintain organised digital financial records Support process improvements where possible Required Skills and Qualifications: 3+ years’ experience in Australian bookkeeping Solid understanding of GST, BAS, payroll, and ATO compliance Experience with STP-enabled payroll systems Extensive/advanced knowledge in Xero Skills & Attributes Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage time effectively within part-time hours Good communication skills and professional discretion Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Work Arrangement & Expectations: This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
