Bookkeeper (Part-Time, 1 Day per Week) Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organised Bookkeeper to support the financial management of our group of companies. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing profit & loss accounts, managing payroll, reconciling transactions, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

This role is central to keeping our businesses financially structured and will provide critical support across:

  • Clarke & Watt Building Consultancy Ltd (CWBC) – building consultancy and quantity surveying services
  • WHL Projects – contracting and building works
  • WHL S&E – specialist services and engineering

We retain an external accountant for statutory year-end accounts; however, we require an in-house bookkeeper to manage weekly and monthly financial operations, providing clear and up-to-date reporting across all three business units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update financial records for CWBC, WHL Projects, and WHL S&E using accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero)
  • Prepare and maintain monthly profit & loss accounts across the three companies
  • Process payroll and issue payslips for staff
  • Manage accounts payable and ensure timely payments to suppliers and subcontractors
  • Record and reconcile all income and expenses, including multi-company transactions
  • Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow across the group
  • Track and manage general business expenses
  • Assist with management accounts, budgets, and financial planning
  • Support month-end and year-end preparation, liaising with our external accountant
  • Provide directors with accurate and timely financial updates for decision-making

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping, including payroll and management accounts
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Xero)
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and practices
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks across different companies and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present financial data
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in accounts payable and reconciliations is highly desirable

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £7,000.00-£9,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 8 per week
