Description

Are you looking for a flexible part-time role to fit in with other commitments? Are you already trained or are you willing to train as a clerk to governors and join our successful and expanding clerking service on a permanent but flexible basis? Full training is provided for the right candidate. You must have a demonstrable professional history in senior level administration, compliance or management. An interest in education is an advantage.
The role is term time only and the successful candidate will be expected to clerk around 15 meetings per term (120 hours per school term).

This is an autonomous role which involves:

  • liaising with the Headteacher and Chair of Governors prior to each meeting to put together the agenda
  • collating and distributing papers using an online portal within agreed timescales
  • keeping accurate membership records and ensuring that governors approaching the end of their term of office are identified and arrangements made to conduct elections or identify replacements
  • attending governing board meetings at assigned schools and producing accurate, succinct minutes and an action log in a timely manner
  • supporting and advising the governing board to ensure they comply with relevant legislation and procedures (training and support will be provided)

Clerks are required to attend meetings at the school (or occasionally virtual meetings) and complete all associated administrative work at home on the laptop provided.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • flexibility to attend meetings in the afternoon and early evening and to complete all other required work from home
  • exceptional organisational skills
  • someone who is proactive and professional
  • confidence to build effective relationships with the Chair and Headteacher and other key stakeholders
  • positive and approachable personality
  • excellent minute taking ability (this will be tested prior to interview)
  • someone who is calm under pressure and can handle a very busy inbox
  • a high level of personal integrity, dependability and reliability
  • someone who enjoys undertaking research and finding answers
  • ability to use various online systems
We provide clerks for over 2,000 school and academy governing board meetings each year in 35 local authority areas. Your own transport is essential - mileage is reimbursed at 45p/mile. The role is term-time only.
This role may suit someone who is semi-retired but looking to make a difference in their local community or someone who is looking for a part time flexible role.
