JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a technically proficient Cybersecurity Research Specialist to support research initiatives and training activities focused on industrial control systems (ICS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and associated cybersecurity protocols and vulnerabilities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in cybersecurity, a strong understanding of industrial communication protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively with academic researchers and students.
This role will directly contribute to cybersecurity-related research projects, supporting the development of solutions, simulations, and demonstrations that address real-world security challenges in critical infrastructure environments.
This position is suitable for undergraduate students, graduate students, or working professionals with a background in cybersecurity who are interested in applied research and academic collaboration.
U.S Citizenship is required for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Current undergraduate, graduate student, or working professional with experience in cybersecurity.
· Familiarity with SCADA/ICS systems, industrial protocols, and associated cybersecurity challenges.
· Experience using cybersecurity tools such as Wireshark, Metasploit, Snort, Nessus, or equivalents.
· Understanding of network architectures, intrusion detection, and secure communication in critical infrastructure contexts.
· Prior experience participating in or supporting cybersecurity research projects is highly desirable.
· Strong skills in technical documentation and presentation.
· Experience in teaching, tutoring, or technical training is a strong plus.
· Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and methodologies (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework, MITRE ATT&CK for IC

Responsibilities

· Conduct applied cybersecurity research related to SCADA systems, ICS environments, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, OPC, IEC 61850).
· Collaborate with faculty and research teams on cybersecurity projects involving threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and mitigation strategies for industrial systems.
· Develop testbeds, simulations, and hands-on cybersecurity exercises for research and demonstration purposes.
· Analyze and document cybersecurity findings, methodologies, and research outcomes in technical reports and presentations.
· Create PowerPoint presentations and technical documentation to communicate research results to various audiences.
· Conduct hands-on workshops and training sessions to help students and faculty build practical cybersecurity skills.
· Support the preparation and execution of capability briefs and live demonstrations of cybersecurity research outcomes.
· Stay current with emerging threats, technologies, and research trends in ICS/SCADA cybersecurity
