Job Title: Part Time Docent Rate: $16.32 per hour Dauphin County Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Part Time Docent. The overall objective of the employee in this position is to educate groups and individuals about the history of Fort Hunter and assist in providing security for the Fort Hunter collections. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: 1. Greets, orients and guides visitors through Fort Hunter Mansion. 2. Teaches school workshop classes in spring and fall. 3. Provides a security presence for safety of collections. 4. Collects admission from visitors. 5. Staffs the Museum Shop and operates the cash register and credit card machine. 6. Performs daily chores, light housekeeping and office duties. 7. Answers the phone and directs calls to the proper person or answers questions when appropriate. 8. Assists in the maintenance of the Mansion gardens. 9. Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, as necessary.   OTHER DUTIES OF JOB: 1. Attends meetings and trainings as required. 2. Assists the Educator with special events. 3. Performs other job-related duties as required.   SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 1. Receives direct instruction and supervision from the Mansion Manager and Fort Hunter Park Manager in regard to daily work duties and special work projects.   SUPERVISION GIVEN: 1. Supervises groups and individuals during tours of Fort Hunter Mansion.   WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Works indoors in adequate workspace and lighting but with fluctuations in temperatures. 2. Works indoors in seasonal weather conditions and exposure to outdoor dust/dirt. 3. Occasional higher than normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt in old buildings. 4. Works in conditions of potential outbursts or disruptive behavior for general public with potential for physical harm.   PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS: 1. Must possess ability to interpret historical material to the public. 2. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, accurately and politely with the public. 3. Must be able to sit/stand/walk intermittently for long periods throughout the work day, with occasional periods of bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, as needed to perform essential job duties. 4. Must be able to physically and mentally react in the event of a disturbance or physical outbreak. 5. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work. 6. Must be able to take direction from supervisors.   QUALIFICATIONS A. EDUCATION/TRAINING: * Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program.   B. WORK EXPERIENCE: * No experience necessary.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out the essential functions of job. 2. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 3. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with co-workers, staff and volunteers. 4. Must possess knowledge of Fort Hunter buildings and land, configurations, spaces and history. 5. Must possess the ability to operate the Museum Shop cash register and credit card machine.
