This position reports to the Executive Housekeeper and Chief Engineer. Join our team as the hotel's dedicated Houseperson and Maintenance professional, working the overnight shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Position Summary: The Houseperson/Maintenance Engineer at Hyatt House is essential in maintaining the hotel's common areas and guest rooms, ensuring they are clean and well-organized. This role involves keeping public spaces immaculate and supporting the housekeeping team by delivering amenities to guest rooms. Additionally, the position includes performing maintenance tasks to keep the hotel's facilities in excellent condition. Key qualities for success include strong attention to detail, efficiency, and a dedication to the hotel's high standards. The Houseperson/Maintenance Engineer works collaboratively with other departments to promptly address guest needs, contributing to a welcoming and comfortable environment with a positive attitude and commitment to exceptional service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned): Overnight Houseman/Maintenance General Responsibilities Maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all public areas during overnight hours. Assist with light maintenance tasks, ensuring the property remains in good working condition. Respond promptly to guest and team member requests. Complete nightly checklists, rounds, and assigned projects. Report and document any maintenance or safety issues. Complete assigned projects as directed by supervisors or management. Houseman Duties Clean and sanitize public areas (lobby, hallways, elevators, restrooms, fitness center, guest laundry, etc.). Empty trash bins and replace liners throughout common areas and back-of-house spaces. Vacuum, mop, and dust all assigned areas. Refresh pool area: replace towels, wipe furniture, empty trash, restock supplies. Restock housekeeping closets and carts with linens and amenities. Deliver items to guest rooms as requested (pillows, blankets, towels, toiletries, etc.). Assist with deep cleaning projects (carpet shampooing, floor polishing, vent cleaning). Assist in the laundry department and help finish laundry tasks as necessary. Maintenance Duties Perform basic maintenance tasks such as: Changing light bulbs and air filters. Resetting breakers or troubleshooting minor electrical issues. Unclogging drains and toilets. Checking HVAC systems for proper operation. Conduct nightly property walks to inspect lighting, exits, doors, and mechanical rooms. Monitor building systems (boilers, pumps, elevators) and report irregularities. Ensure all maintenance closets and storage areas are clean and organized. Assist with emergency situations (leaks, alarms, power outages). Other Essential Job Duties: (Continued) Attends hotel and department meetings and other functions required by management. Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on hotel policies and procedures. Communicates all pertinent information to Housekeeping Supervisor and/or Maintenance Supervisor. Must be available to work weekends and holidays. Arrives to work on time, ready to clock in, in a clean/pressed uniform and non-slip shoes. Must maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming. Wears name tag at all times when at work. Must be attentive, courteous and efficient at all times when dealing with the Guests and co-workers. Comply at all times with compliance standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. Establish and maintain good communications and teamwork with fellow employees and other departments within the hotel in such a manner that promotes harmony and goodwill throughout the workplace. Be familiar with all policies and hotel rules, and hotel terminology. Must be capable of self-supervision and have the ability to manage time accordingly in order to complete the required work. Physical Demands: The Houseperson/Maintenance Engineer role at Hyatt House requires physical endurance, agility, and detail orientation. Responsibilities include standing for long periods, moving furniture, restocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness. The ability to lift and transport heavy items is essential, as is handling fragile objects and operating cleaning equipment with precision. Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive motions are involved, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Excellent visual acuity is crucial. Housepersons also perform heavy lifting during detailed room cleaning, such as moving furniture for thorough maintenance. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities. Physical Demands Continued: Continuous Standing: The role requires the ability to stand continuously throughout the shift, ensuring readiness to address any immediate needs or issues. Normal Neck Motion: Regular neck movement is necessary to observe surroundings and communicate effectively with team members and guests. Carrying Weight: Must be able to carry items weighing up to 10-15 pounds, such as linens and maintenance tools, over distances up to 20 feet. Moderate Reaching: Frequent reaching is required for tasks such as retrieving maintenance supplies or adjusting hotel fixtures. Intermittent Overhead Lifting: Occasionally, employees will need to lift items overhead, such as light fixtures or ceiling tiles. Frequent Waist to Chest Level Lifting: Regular lifting of items from waist to chest height, like restocking supplies or transporting equipment. Intermittent Floor Level Lifting: Occasionally lifting items from the floor, including tools or debris. Occasional Climbing on Stool: May need to climb on a stool to access higher areas for maintenance or cleaning purposes. No Crawling: The position does not require crawling. Pushing and Pulling: Must be capable of intermittently pushing and pulling items up to 150 pounds, such as housekeeping carts or equipment. Additionally, frequent pushing and pulling are needed for vacuuming and opening and closing drawers. Frequent Bending: Bending is a common requirement for accessing supplies or performing maintenance tasks. Frequent Twisting: Twisting motions are regularly needed to accomplish tasks efficiently. Continuous and Repetitive Use of Hands: Constant use of hands for manipulating items, including holding, gripping, grasping, fingering, and feeling objects. Continuous Use of Feet: Employees will continuously use their feet for walking and standing tasks.
