We’re looking for a passionate Junior Sous Chef to join our team at Oru Sutton. With over 2 years of experience in a professional kitchen, the ideal candidate will have an interest in vegetarian/vegan or Asian cuisine, and skills in pizza making.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated hospitality professional to join our kitchen team as a Chef de Partie/ Jounior Sous Chef with Pizza Focus at our Sutton Café and Restaurant. We are opening our roof terras to serve Sri Lanka influenced pizzas. We are looking for an openminded chef who has experience in making pizza dough, shaping pizza pies and is ready for a challenge to experiment with Sri Lankan toppings. We are looking to open rooftop evening service and indoor restaurant in the middle of May and run it through the summer and in colder months move entirely indoors.
At Oru, we believe in a collaborative and creative kitchen environment. We are looking for a Chef who can support our team in managing a busy day service, followed by a more refined evening restaurant service. Our menus are inspired by Sri Lankan cuisine, reflecting the heritage and passion of one of our founders.
For this role, candidates should have over 2 years of experience working in a professional kitchen. A strong interest in vegetarian/vegan and Asian cuisine is preferred. This is an exciting opportunity to join Oru during a period of growth. We are expanding both at our East Dulwich location and the new Sutton site. We are looking for someone who shares our vision and is excited to grow alongside the business.   • Proficiency in spoken and written English at a B2 level or higher.
  • Computer literacy.
  • A passion for hospitality.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a chef in a professional kitchen.
  • Skills in pizza making and passion for Asian cuisine, particularly for Sri Lankan. Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, safe working practices, and in-house allergen procedures, including HACCP.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to develop and refine recipes, inspiring the team to elevate standards wherever possible.
  • Work closely with the team, providing support as needed.
  • Regularly taste dishes to ensure the highest quality and consistency, retraining staff when necessary.
  • Liaise with suppliers to secure the best produce and stay updated on food trends and innovations.
  • Assist in the induction and training of kitchen staff in pizza making.
  • Help manage the maintenance schedules for kitchen equipment.
