JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Description of Duties : The Master Watershed Steward Coordinator oversees the general function and activities of the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward volunteer program in Lebanon, Lancaster and Dauphin Counties.
The Master Watershed Steward Coordinator oversees the general function and activities of the volunteer program. The Coordinator reports to the Statewide Master Watershed Steward Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Ability to manage volunteers
  • Ability to inspire and develop leadership in individuals, committees and supervisors
  • Ability to build and maintain community partnerships
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, SharePoint, email and Web browsers
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, with or without accommodations
  • Must have valid drivers license and use of personal automobile

Terms of Employment:

  • Part-time (24 hours per week). Work schedule is flexible
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours and overnight travel as needed.

Compensation:
The rate for this job is $20/hr.

Responsibilities
  • Become familiar with policies and resources in the Penn State Master Watershed Steward Coordinators’ Manual. Provide the information to educators and volunteers when applicable.
  • Attend professional development and program management activities as needed. Connect and collaborate with local conservation partners to organize trainings and conduct volunteer projects. Chair (or advise) the county Master Watershed Steward Advisory Council, if applicable.
  • Organize yearly/biannual training sessions, recruit new volunteers, attend training sessions, and ensure the training program runs smoothly and in accordance with the program policies. Oversee Master Watershed Steward volunteer projects either directly or through committee chairs. Approve/disapprove proposed activities based on their educational purpose, available resources, the current volunteer availability for new projects, and liability issues.
  • Assist requests for Master Watershed Steward assistance to individual volunteers or committees. Serve as the main communication link between the County Extension Office, local volunteers, and the Penn State Master Watershed Steward program at the regional and state levels. Communicate information from the statewide Penn State Master Watershed Steward Coordinator’s Office to all volunteers.
  • Produce a monthly (or other appropriate periodic) newsletter or e-mail communication for the county program. As time allows and with the help of volunteers, plan, facilitate and evaluate educational events for the public. Develop and deliver educational programs in personal areas of expertise. Increase depth and breadth of expertise over time (professional development support available). Maintain accurate records of volunteer training and volunteer service. Be responsible for evaluating and reporting of Master Watershed Steward outreach efforts; complete the annual report due to the Statewide Master Watershed Steward Coordinator each year. Provide volunteer recognition.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Master Watershed Steward business/program development meetings and continuing education opportunities.
  • Answer inquiries about the Master Watershed Steward program and serve as spokesperson when needed. Answer client questions on water resources and related topics as needed.
  • Increase revenue for the program and oversee approval of expenses.
  • Assure that all volunteers comply with the Master Watershed Steward Policy Statement. Report any concerns to the Statewide Watershed Steward Coordinator.
  • Assure that affirmative action requirements are met when recruiting volunteers and as volunteers carry out Master Watershed Steward activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
