POSITION SUMMARY

Academic Part-time Position

As a Part-Time Professor, you will develop and deliver curriculum using various engaging and innovative methods, playing a pivotal role in enhancing academic excellence through sound teaching practice.
The School of Engineering & Technology is currently seeking a qualified professional to join the Civil Engineering and Technology program team to teach the following course part-time from September to December 2025:
Land Development and Planning (CIVL3170): This course explores the civil engineering aspects of land development from initial site investigation to design and construction. Topics include grading, site layout, servicing, traffic flow and aspects municipal class environmental assessment.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to teach three hours per week on-site at Conestoga’s Cambridge campus, located at 850 Fountain St. S.
Conestoga offers classes Monday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Part-time Professors typically teach one to two courses. Courses are approximately three to six hours per week in the classroom for a 14-week term.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three-year diploma or degree in civil engineering or a related field is required
  • Relevant work experience in the field of land development and planning is required
  • Experience with curriculum development is an asset
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels, including international students and students requiring accommodation, is an asset
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are considered an asset
Responsibilities
  • Ensure program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field
  • Design appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including online, classroom, and computer-assisted lab lessons
  • Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college
