We are currently seeking a part-time Therapeutic Recreational Therapist to join our team at DeBerry Special Needs Facility located in Nashville, Tennessee. The Therapeutic Recreation Therapist is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs for incarcerated individuals to support their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Working within a correctional environment, the therapist uses structured activities—such as exercise, arts, games, and leisure education—to promote rehabilitation, reduce stress, and improve social functioning. This role collaborates with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to tailor interventions that align with treatment goals and institutional safety protocols. Key Responsibilities Develop and lead structured recreational therapy sessions tailored to inmate needs. Assess individual functioning and leisure interests through interviews and observation. Document progress and contribute to interdisciplinary treatment planning. Promote prosocial behavior, emotional regulation, and coping skills through therapeutic activities. Ensure compliance with safety standards and institutional regulations. Maintain equipment and manage program resources effectively. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related field. Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or an Activity Professional Certified (APC) preferred. Experience in behavioral health or correctional settings is highly desirable Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis management skills.
