Description We are seeking a faithful and engaging part-time Science Teacher for grades 1–4 to foster wonder and curiosity about God’s creation in our youngest learners. The ideal candidate will integrate hands-on exploration, observation, and scientific habits of mind with the Catholic understanding of creation, helping students see the natural world as a reflection of God’s order and beauty. Requirements Curriculum & Instruction Teach science to students in grades 1–4 in alignment with a classical and Catholic vision of education. Design and deliver lessons that encourage observation, questioning, classification, and wonder. Use age-appropriate experiments, nature study, and direct observation to engage students in exploring the natural world. Emphasize the order, design, and intelligibility of creation as signs of the Creator. Incorporate traditional classical methods such as narration and nature notebooks where appropriate. Classroom Culture Create a peaceful, structured, and joy-filled learning environment that reflects the dignity of each child. Encourage attentiveness, care, and reverence for the created world. Model and teach virtues such as patience, diligence, humility, and stewardship. Assessment & Communication ? Regularly assess student understanding through oral responses, written work, projects, and observation. ? Maintain accurate records and communicate student progress clearly with parents and colleagues. ? Collaborate with homeroom teachers to ensure consistency and integration across subjects. Collaboration & Formation Participate in faculty meetings, school liturgies, and professional development. Support the mission of classical Catholic education and contribute to the school’s shared goals. Pursue ongoing growth in classical pedagogy and the Catholic intellectual tradition. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred). Experience teaching young children, especially in a Catholic or classical setting, is highly valued. Familiarity with nature study, hands-on science education, or inquiry-based learning is preferred. Skills & Dispositions A love for teaching and for God’s creation. Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills. Ability to bring scientific content to life in age-appropriate, meaningful ways. Enthusiasm for forming both minds and hearts in the pursuit of truth and virtue. Preferred Familiarity with or openness to classical education and its approach to science. Experience integrating science instruction with Catholic teaching on creation and stewardship. Ability to use simple tools and materials to create rich, hands-on learning experiences. Personal Qualities A practicing Christian who seeks to live and teach in harmony with the teachings of the Church. A joyful, reverent, and curious spirit with a heart for forming young learners. A collaborative mindset and a love for learning and growing as a teacher.
