The City of North Canton is accepting applications for a School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to St. Paul Catholic School. This position offers a consistent weekday, daytime schedule during the school year and is well-suited for an OPOTA-certified law enforcement professional seeking a stable assignment focused on safety, presence, and positive community interaction. Position Overview This is a City position providing law enforcement services in a school setting. The SRO serves as a visible safety presence, supports emergency preparedness, and builds professional relationships with students and staff in coordination with school administration and City leadership. Schedule & Compensation Part-time, daytime schedule during the school year No nights, weekends, holidays, or summer work Maximum pay rate: $30.34 per hour Annual uniform allowance City-issued equipment Paid training Key Responsibilities Maintain a consistent law enforcement presence during school hours Promote a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors Assist with emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response Address safety concerns and incidents in coordination with school administration and City supervision Foster positive, age-appropriate interactions with students Enforce applicable laws, policies, and City procedures Minimum Qualifications Current OPOTA certification (required), or the ability to recertify Prior law enforcement experience Ability to work effectively in a school environment Strong communication skills and sound judgment Professional demeanor and commitment to community-oriented policing Additional Information This position may be particularly appealing to officers seeking a predictable daytime assignment or a transition from full-time patrol responsibilities while continuing to serve the community.
