DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

Drake University’s Office of Finance is responsible for a wide range of business functions across the university under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer. The office of Student Account Services, of which this position resides, is a department within Finance.
Student Account Services strives to partner with Drake students, families, and other key offices, including Student Financial Aid, to assist students in meeting their financial obligation to Drake. Student Account Services assures students receive timely and accurate information about their financial accounts and financial status at Drake.

JOB SUMMARY:

Drake University’s Office of Student Accounts seeks applications for the Student Account Consultant position. The Office of Student Accounts embraces Drake’s core value of “All in This Together” as the staff work collaboratively to provide in depth customer service to Drake’s students, families, colleagues, and third parties regarding student financial accounts under FERPA regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years customer service-related experience with a focus in effective in-person and electronic communication.
  • Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  • Ability to use pc hardware, Microsoft Office Suite software (especially Teams and Excel), and video conferencing technology.
  • Accuracy, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise sound, professional judgment, insight, problem solving techniques, and independent initiative when applying policies, procedures, and principles.
Responsibilities

60% - Offer in-depth customer service to students and other interested parties by providing payment and account information under FERPA regulations. Provide instruction on using student accounts self-service tools. Respond to students, authorized users, third-parties, and colleagues in person, on the phone, via e-mail, and written correspondence to resolve student account questions or issues. - (Essential)
15% - Maintain the financial integrity of student financial accounts by continuous monitoring of student balances. Add fees, waivers, and other transactions to ensure the accuracy of monthly billing statements. - (Essential)

10% - Monitor online employer deferment process. Process pending employer deferments and notify students once completed. Send reminder to students with unpaid deferment balances prior to expiration of deferment period. - (Essential)
5% -Partner with Human Resources and Student Financial Planning to determine tuition waiver amounts and add tuition waiver to student bills. - (Essential)
For faculty positions, selection will depend on the receipt of recommendation confirming the candidate’s scholarly achievements and teaching abilities and/or on the candidate’s satisfactory passing of a teaching demonstration if selected for an on-campus interview.
