Main Purpose The national Uni Connect Programme funded by the Office for Students’ (OfS) aims to support young people from underrepresented groups in making informed choices about higher education options and minimising barriers to progression, including academic attainment. The North East Uni Connect programme (NEUCP) involves all colleges and universities in the North East region working together to deliver a sustained and progressive programme of support, including the delivery of HEIAG sessions. The North East Raising Aspiration Partnership (NERAP) is a collaboration of the five universities in the North East of England, working together to support young people to think about their futures and how higher education can help them reach their goals. Our Choices Together Programme supports care-experienced young people in Years 7-13 to discover and experience higher education through on-campus and online activities. The Partnership Associate will be allocated shifts for the following roles: - Supporting on-campus events and activities (some specifically aimed at care-experienced young people). The shifts will be on set dates that will be advertised throughout the year. - Deliver our programme of HE sessions in schools across the North East. The shifts will be on an ad-hoc basis in response to the needs of the schools. All session materials and training in delivery are provided. - Attend careers fair stands on behalf of the partnerships and give impartial HEIAG. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Present accurate information via HEIAG sessions to young people in schools and at events within the North East in both small and large group settings. 2. Support the delivery of university campus visits across NEUCP partnered institutions, providing guidance and encouragement to young people to enhance their understanding of HE opportunities. 3. Support the delivery of Choices Together events across NERAP partnered institutions to care experienced young people. 4. Be a positive source of support for young people contributing to raising their confidence, self-esteem and aspirations. 5. Act as a responsible, positive role model to young people. 6. Be a positive advocator for the University, NEUCP, NERAP and for higher education in general. 7. Undertake available training at the university and online as directed by the NEUCP Assistant Manager to develop knowledge and key skills in delivering the programme content and effectively engaging young people. 8. Complete and return any associated paperwork including registers, evaluations and timesheets to the designated contact at the University as required, ensuring compliance with GDPR and reporting procedures. 9. To undertake other appropriate duties relevant to the post as required by the Project Coordinator. The below role descriptor seeks to capture the main requirements of the role consistently, providing a summary of the key duties of the flexible role to help in setting expectations for applicants, flexible workers and line managers. They are not intended to cover all duties which may be required. Essential Criteria: 1) Currently a higher education student at Durham University. 2) Able to enthuse young people about higher education. 3) Confident communicating with school/college pupils and staff (verbal and written). 4) Non-judgemental, patient, and empathetic approach. 5) Able to empathise with young people from underrepresented groups. 6) Able to handle confidential information and follow safeguarding protocols. 7) Friendly, approachable, and professional communication style. 8) Confident engaging with young people, parents/carers, and school staff. 9) Able to work flexibly and as part of a team. 10) Self-motivated and able to work independently after training. 11) Available to work on an ad hoc basis, including evenings/weekends. 12) Willing to attend mandatory training on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November. Desirable Criteria: 1) Awareness of issues affecting progression to higher education for young people in the North East. 2) Experience of supporting or working with young people in educational, community, or care settings.
