Description Job Summary The Pastoral Associate for Evangelization & Catechesis leads and coordinates parish programming that fosters evangelization and lifelong faith formation. Working closely with the pastor, pastoral team, and volunteers, this role ensures alignment with the Parish Pastoral Plan. Responsibilities include overseeing evangelization staff, guiding catechetical and sacramental preparation, and empowering lay leaders as witnesses of the Gospel. The associate also develops and implements opportunities for comprehensive faith formation for people of all ages and stages of life. Ministerial Character The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Theresa Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Positions employed at St. Theresa Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church. Duties and responsibilities 1. Coordinate evangelization strategies with the goal of making disciples of all parishioners. 2. Facilitate catechetical programs for children, youth and adults. 3. Oversee volunteer catechists. Recruit, train, and provide support for catechists including Diocesan catechist certifications. 4. Oversee sacrament preparation for families. This includes infant baptism, OCIA (and OCIA adapted for children & teens as needed), adult confirmation, and marriage preparation. 5. Develop and facilitate marriage ministry, including training and support of sponsor couples for marriage preparation, and other marriage enrichment and pastoral support of divorced Catholics as suited to the parish. 6. Meet with individuals and families to pastorally discern the best path to the Sacraments of Initiation or to return to the Church and the Sacraments. 7. Provide support to parish groups as needed, such as young adults, men’s and women’s fellowship, bible studies, retreat programs, family ministry and special events. 8. Supervise and approve all catechetical curriculum and instructional material for all programming that is within the scope of the Evangelization and Catechesis department. 9. Maintain Evangelization & Catechesis budget and Nursery Budget. Prepare and submit annual budgets for both. 10. Supervise Evangelization & Catechesis personnel. 11. Interview and hire staff as needed. Define and assign relevant responsibilities and duties to staff. Evaluate staff performance annually and as needed. 12. Plan and oversee all aspects of the annual Soup and the Spirit Lenten event. 13. Coordinate and assist with the production of parish missions. 14. Attend off-sight annual parish staff retreat. 15. Other duties as assigned by the Pastor. Bachelor’s degree in theology or related may be considered with experience and recommendation. · 5 years’ experience working in a Catholic parish, school or diocese. · 2 years’ supervisory experience. · Ability to work in a collaborative environment. · Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. · Budgeting experience/skills. · Organizational skills. · Problem solving skills. · Proficient computer skills. · Catholic in good standing. Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period. Working conditions Full time 40-hour work week. Irregular working hours due to the needs and structure of the ministry. Adjustments in hours may be needed at times to meet specific deadlines or program responsibilities. Some evening and weekend hours are required. Must maintain confidentiality of personal information. Flexibility is required as well as collaboration, especially in regard to shared work spaces.
