Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Duration: 13-week Contract (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Days (8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Pathologist Assistant to join our pathology team in Oklahoma City, OK. This full-time, day-shift position involves assisting with gross examination of specimens, preparing frozen sections, supporting autopsy procedures, and performing routine histology tasks. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a laboratory team, and will demonstrate accuracy, accountability, and professionalism in handling sensitive patient material.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 1–3 years of laboratory technical experience
  • Experience in specimen grossing, autopsy support, and/or histology preferred
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm in high-pressure situations
  • Technical troubleshooting and accurate record-keeping required

EDUCATION:

  • Required: Associate’s Degree or higher
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or related field

Responsibilities
  • Perform gross descriptions of simple and limited pathology specimens.
  • Assist with autopsy procedures, including patient preparation and evisceration.
  • Prepare, label, cut, and stain frozen tissue sections.
  • Receive and register specimens into the electronic medical record system.
  • Calibrate instruments and perform routine maintenance as required.
  • Label tissue cassettes using block control sheets.
  • Photograph specimens for documentation and presentation purposes.
  • Respond to on-call requests for autopsies.
  • Follow lab safety protocols and use appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and assist in resolving testing anomalies.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and organized records.
  • Participate in annual competency assessments and professional development.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
