JOB SUMMARY The post holder will be required to work independently and as part of a team, liaise with other healthcare professionals, clinicians, laboratory staff, suppliers and/or their representatives. The post holder must observe the policies and procedures relevant to the role. The work involves routinely handling paperwork i.e. patient reports, post and deliveries to pathology that may contain pathogenic micro-organisms.
The department is highly computerised and a good knowledge of IT software is necessary to the role. OBJECTIVES, PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST To undertake general office duties. Sorting and redirecting of internal and external mail. To assist with sorting and distribution of results to Wards, Consultants, GPs and other external Clinicians.
To assist with the ordering of stationery and maintaining a good level of stock control. To place orders with suppliers and to chase outstanding deliveries. To report MDTs and assist in locating and referring work for second opinions To accept deliveries and direct them, in a timely fashion, to the correct discipline within Pathology. To ensure that GP and Consultant lists are kept up to date.
To comply at all times with any regulations issued by the Trust, especially those governing Health and Safety at work and to ensure that any defects which may affect safety at work are brought to the attention of the appropriate manager. It is the responsibility of all staff to minimise the Trust’s environmental impact by recycling wherever possible, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use, minimising water usage and reporting faults promptly.
