Description Brattleboro Memorial Hospital / Southern Vermont Health Services Corporation Job Description Job Title: Patient Access Representative Job Code: 143 Hours: Per Diem FLSA Status: Non-exempt Department Name: Patient Financial Services (9200) Location: Brattleboro, Vermont JOB SUMMARY: This position reports to the Patient Access Manager and is responsible for all functions relating to the operation of the switchboard and registration for all patient types. This position will include working at the Switchboard, in Main Registration, doing bedside registration in the ED and outpatient registration in the Richards Building. Some of the job duties include but are not limited to processing all incoming calls on a multiline phone system, provide information regarding hospital services and events, handles all hospital codes; monitors and responds to all alarm panels. Obtains correct insurance and demographic information, coordinates verification of preadmission activities with PFS Office. Provides customer service support for PFS to internal and external customers including taking patient payments and explaining questions about bills. Treats patients with utmost courtesy and respect in accordance with the Patient Bill of Rights. DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE: This department is the first line of contact for patients utilizing hospital services. It is our responsibility to provide each patient with a high level of customer service and efficiently guide them through the registration process and move them on to their next destination. This department is split into two different locations; the Main Building which houses the Switchboard, ED and Main Registration areas and the Richards Building which houses outpatient/lab registration. The Switchboard and ED In-Room Registrations staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week including weekends and holidays. Main Registration staffed M-F 6:00AM – 4:00PM, Richards Building Registration staffed M-F 7:00AM – 6:00PM and Saturday 8:00AM –12PM. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent education preferred. EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS: Registration and/or Switchboard experience desirable, preferably in a hospital environment, or in a similar setting LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION(S): None Mental Efforts: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities Ability to perform keyboard functions Ability to read, write, and distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols Ability to work with patients, families, and public experiencing stressful situations Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits Ability to use routine office equipment (PC, fax, copier, printer, mail machine) Requires eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity Environment & Working Conditions: Fast paced multi-functional hospital setting Comfortable climate-controlled environment Potential exposure to hazardous material, body fluids, bloodborne pathogens, and communicable diseases Significant for CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) OSHA CATEGORY OSHA Category I - Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards. The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
