Primary objective

Assist with the delivery of patient care under the supervision and direction of nursing staff

Context statement

Working effectively in this position involves demonstrating person-centred care, cultural awareness, teamwork, and a

commitment to supporting patients and families during challenging and often emotional circumstances. The successful

applicant will contribute to a compassionate care environment that promotes comfort, dignity, and quality of life for people

receiving palliative care services in Central Australia.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist with delivery of patient care, including personal care requirements relating to hygiene, toileting and nutrition;

2. supporting the patient to remain safe in their environment; supporting the patient’s positioning, mobilisation and

transfers;

3. and through close observation minimise the risks of falls or injuries. Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality

undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Possess oral and written communication skills which facilitate fulfilment of key responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to

work in a diverse multi-disciplinary team including the ability to interact with people from diverse cultures.

2. Demonstrated initiative, reliability and punctuality, capacity to maintain confidentiality and to work as an effective team

member.

3. Demonstrated understanding of hygiene, infection control and WHS principles as they apply in the hospital context.

4. Demonstrated capacity to organise and prioritise workloads and to complete delegated tasks and take direction.

5. Ability to perform physical tasks and be physically fit to undertake these tasks.

6. Preparedness and capacity to work shift work over a seven-day roster.

7. Holds or working towards a Certificate III in Aged Care or Health Services Assistance or equivalent. Current first aid or

basic life support certificate.
