Description AO Multispecialty Clinic is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented Patient Care Coordinators (PCCs) to support our oncology patients undergoing active treatment. This role serves as the central coordinator for high-acuity patients, ensuring treatments are delivered on time, authorizations are secured, and barriers to care are proactively resolved. PCCs play a critical role in protecting both patient outcomes and the financial integrity of the practice. This is a fast-paced, high-responsibility position requiring strong critical thinking, ownership, and cross-functional coordination. Key Responsibilities Patient Treatment Coordination Guide patients through active IV and high-cost oral oncology treatments Proactively identify and resolve scheduling barriers Coordinate appointments and adjust schedules in real time Arrange transportation to prevent missed treatments Support transitions of care (incoming and outgoing patients) Provide patient education using internal tools and treatment summaries Authorization & Financial Protection Verify all prior authorizations and precertifications before treatment Coordinate with billing and patient account representatives Escalate authorization gaps immediately Support medication assistance and copay/foundation workflows Ensure adherence to no-treatment-without-authorization standards Drug & Treatment Coordination Coordinate with pharmacy and distributors to ensure drug readiness Monitor multi-drug regimens requiring precise timing Confirm appropriate ordering and delivery of medications Identify and mitigate risk of drug waste due to no-shows Cross-Functional Communication Serve as the central point of coordination between: Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers Nursing and nurse navigators Scheduling teams Billing and revenue cycle teams Pharmacy and distributors External services (home health, DME, behavioral health) Patient Focus Primary focus includes: Active IV oncology patients High-cost oral oncology therapies Complex treatment regimens requiring close coordination Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree (healthcare, business, or related field preferred) Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills Excellent organizational and time management abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong communication and interpersonal skills High level of ownership, urgency, and accountability Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office Preferred Oncology or specialty care experience Prior authorization or insurance verification experience Care coordination, navigation, or case management background What Success Looks Like Zero treatments administered without proper authorization Reduction in drug waste related to missed or delayed treatments Improved on-time treatment rates High patient satisfaction and engagement Effective resolution of scheduling and access barriers Why This Role Matters In oncology, missed steps can delay critical treatment or result in significant financial loss.
