Description PURPOSE STATEMENT The Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) provides oversight for multiple hospital departments in the absence of unit Managers/Directors. The PCS addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. Supervises nurses and staff and takes administrative responsibilities as directed. Administrative responsibilities include meeting with patients and family members to discuss concerns or patient care. The ability to evaluate issues and trends, as well as address and resolve issues collaboratively with hospital executives and manager/director, is also required. The PCS has some oversight of the unit staffing and proactively communicates staffing needs to the unit manager/director as needed, using professional and supervisory discretion. These duties include providing effective distribution and utilization of personnel with emphasis on staffing for nursing areas by coordinating work schedules and shift coverage. Leads and directs the work of others. The PCS sets the example for staff members and is available to staff as a resource to de-escalate, troubleshoot and solve front-line issues. The PCS promotes teamwork and is the primary liaison between departments. These activities are carried out using sound judgment and critical thinking skills. The PCS handles all these functions and makes resources available to the doctors and the patients to ensure proper functioning of the hospital. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Maintain the responsibility for the coordination of patient care within the Nursing departments and assists with specialty procedures in other Clinical departments. Implement patient care according to planned interventions to attain the patient’s optimal level of function and documents according to policy Knowledge of the basic working processes of all patient care departments Knowledge of and consistently enforce established Nursing, Human Resources, and Hospital policies/procedure Demonstrate positive customer service relations Routinely participate in quality assurance and performance improvement projects and encouragedepartment to continuously improve Assist co-workers as needed/requested Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively Maintain regular and predictable attendance Perform other essential duties as assigned Requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS Currently licensed to practice as a professional registered nurse in the state of Missouri. A BSN or obtained within 3 years of accepting the Patient Care Supervisor position Knowledge of all main functional areas of the hospital is essential. Current BLS required Current ACLS required Current TNCC or obtain within 6 months Current PALS or obtain within 6 months Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 12 hours a day. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition. Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 35 lbs. Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
