Location: Dallas Unit: Specialty Care Unit 3 Shift: FT Days: 3/12's 7a-7p (Workdays TBA) JOB SUMMARY The Patient Care Technician 2 under general direction of Nursing Staff, performs duties requiring knowledge of basic patient care principles and knowledge of medical terminology. Performs direct technical care, assists with personal hygiene, and dietary needs. Duties may vary by assigned area or shift. May handle medications in accordance with responsibilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Provide direct technical care to patients and perform variety of semi-complex treatments including caring for tracheotomy tubes, incisions, decubitus care, draining wounds and suture care. Perform complex procedure such as assisting with patient education, splinting, stocking crash cart, phlebotomy, preparing EKGs equipment, assist with oxygen placement, and educating patients on use of incentive spirometry and monitoring compliance performance. Take and document patient vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure. Obtain patient specimens. Assist patients with personal hygiene activities and dietary needs. Perform exercise and gait as directed by Physical Therapist and/or Registered Nurse. KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Communicate patient status information to facilitate assessment and evaluation of patient to Nursing Staff and/or appropriate healthcare provider. Orient patient and family to Hospital, Unit, or Department on admission as needed. Exhibit knowledge and skills in order to perform duties of Patient Service Assistant as required by needs of department staffing Perform related technical and service duties which include running errands; picking up supplies; delivering specimens; receiving, sorting, and recording results; transporting patients; assisting in turning and lifting patients; and other duties as needed. Follow BSWH established safety procedures to protect self and patients. Work to meet Unit, Department, and BSWH goals for patient care. Attend required educational programs/in-services and meet required competencies. Attend staff conferences and assist in training of other personnel.
