PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN/FRONT DESK LEAD

Eye Specialty Group is seeking a full-time Patient Care Tech./Front Desk Lead who is primarily responsible for checking-in patients into the surgery center and contributing to the timely flow of patients through the surgery center. The position will assist in the patient’s discharge process including removing IVs, checking vital signs, and transporting patients to their vehicles. The position will be answering phone calls and answering questions from patients. This position communicates with the surgery center staff in order to better inform the patients and their families about their time in the surgery center. In addition to these primary responsibilities the Lead position will train all other PCTs on the duties of their job and will serve as the liaison between the front desk and the Revenue Cycle Department, and ASC Administration. This position will also provide training and guidance related to the electronic health record and other related IT systems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); OR six months related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience. COA, CNA and/or Medical Assistant Certification preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal communication, as well as, written communication.
  • Exemplary customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Time Management.
  • Basic math aptitude.
  • Critical thinking skills for identifying problems and resolutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer proficiency or experience in electronic health record/medical software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit/stand/walk and talk/hear as the job requires for long periods of time, as well as, stoop/crouch, lift and climb/balance as needed.
  • Corrected or uncorrected visual acuity in at least one eye of 20/40 or better.
  • Ability to operate office equipment requiring the use of one hand.
  • Ability to push and pull patients in stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Corrected or uncorrected hearing capacity to enable suitable communication skills.
  • Ability to work in clinical environment with a moderate noise level.

Responsibilities

Lead:
Provide training to other PCT/FD Representatives on job duties and responsibilities.
Serve as liaison with the Revenue Cycle Department handling inquiries, and resolving issues.
Serve as liaison with ASC Administration helping improve process flows, submitting ideas for process improvement, and helping initiate process changes.
Provide training and guidance for the electronic health record, check-in/appointment application, and any other IT applications.
Oversee day-to-day front desk activities ensuring there is full coverage and communicating needs to the Nurse Manager.

Patient Care:

  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
  • Maintains a safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock and stocking rooms as needed.
  • Requests surgical clearances from various medical practices and follows up accordingly.
  • Assists with the discharge process by taking vital signs, discontinuing IVs, and transporting patients to their vehicle.

Front Desk:

  • Greets patients with a smile as they arrive. Provides excellent customer service throughout patients’ visit.
  • Answers and directs phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Instructs patients regarding completion of surgical admission forms.
  • Updates demographic information for all patients.
  • Scans insurance cards into the patient electronic record if needed.
  • Creates/Duplicates all patient appointments into the electronic health record.
  • Checks-in patients in the electronic health record.
  • Directs caregivers to the appropriate waiting and pick-up areas and keeps them informed of patient status throughout the surgical process.
  • Verifies and prepares all surgical and laser procedure charts prior to the day of surgery.
  • Breaks down all surgical and laser charts at the end of each day.
  • Creates and prepares all surgical paperwork and chart packets as required. Creates and prepares all Center forms and documents.
  • Maintains and requisitions office supplies as necessary.
  • Maintains a great work ethic with high motivation and initiative.
  • Requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Knows basic first aid and CPR Certified.
  • Communicates internally with all Physicians, Staff, and Patients.
  • Communicates externally with vendors, doctors’ offices, etc.
  • Travels to other clinics as needed.
  • Completes compliance trainings as requested and required by law.
  • Adheres to HIPAA compliance plan.
  • All other duties as assigned.
