Learn About a Day in the Life of a PCT: The Cross Trained Assistant performs CNA duties as well as clerical duties under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) and the unit manager. Assists with patient care tasks such as obtaining vital signs, assists in transporting patients, pass meal trays, deliver hygiene care and answers inquiries within the scope of practice. Assists nursing staff by receiving patients at the desk, taking the patient to appropriate room, gives initial instruction. Assists in transporting discharged patients and answers inquiries within the scope of practice. In addition, he/she may act as the unit’s receptionist, assigns patient to room on board, alerts nursing staff to patient arrival, pulls and prepares chart. Orders and monitors utilization of selected supplies: office, nutritional supplements, forms and retrieval chart back. Assists with stocking supplies that are needed in the unit as well as assist in keeping the nursing stations clean and organized. Job Requirements Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care. Preferred Job Requirements Oklahoma Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician preferred. Desirable characteristics include at least one year of experience as a Unit Secretary with or without nurse assistant or CNA experience.
Responsibilities
The Patient Care Technician performs a combination of CNA and clerical duties, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with patient hygiene, and transporting patients. They also manage unit reception tasks, maintain supply levels, and assist nursing staff with patient intake and documentation.
