JOB SUMMARY: PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN The Patient Care Technician (PCT) implements, monitors and documents patient care depending on established criteria, under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. He/ She has the responsibility of handling and serving patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort. Performance is limited to those acts in which training has been received. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN Room patients, obtain vitals, patient history and reason for seeking care. Adds current home medications list to patient chart. Documents appropriately in the patients EMR results of procedures performed. Responsible for patient flow from waiting area to exam rooms. JOB SUMMARY: MEDICAL ASSISTANT The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing and assisting with patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed health care provider in a clinic setting. He/ She has the responsibility of handling and serving patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort. Performance is limited to those acts in which training has been received. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: MEDICAL ASSISTANT Room patients, obtain vitals, patient history and reason for seeking care. Adds current home medications list to patient chart. Documents appropriately in the patients EMR results of procedures performed. Responsible for patient flow from waiting area to exam rooms. Administer medications, phlebotomy, perform x-rays, and lab testing. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN & MEDICAL ASSISTANT Maintains work area, exam room and supplies daily. Assists medical staff when necessary. Attends in-services and mandatory meetings. Adheres to the dress code, attendance and all other company policies and procedures. May be required to cross-train in additional clinic support roles. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN & MEDICAL ASSISTANT Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent. Good verbal and written communication skills. Adaptable to changing work schedules and patient needs. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. One year experience as PCT, CNA, or MA preferred. CPR or BLS certification preferred. Medical Assistant applicants must be certified. WORKING CONDITIONS May be exposed to the risk of communicable diseases and radiation. May require handling of unclean or infectious materials. Normally works in a well-lighted, well-ventilated area. Must be able to work under the stress and conditions that normally exist in a clinical setting. Classification Category I – Tasks that involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
