Description Shift Type: 3 shifts per week / 10 hours per shift Salt Creek Surgery Center is currently seeking a full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) Patient Care Technician. Essential duties and responsibilities : Assists nurses (RN) with all areas of patient care in the pre-operative and post-operative care areas. Takes and records temperatures, blood pressures, pulse and respiration rates, communicates any abnormal findings to the RN.. Assists with performing blood glucose, PT/INR and UCG testing. Documents and communicates any abnormal findings. Assists RNs in preparing patients for procedures - helps clip the surgical site, helps patient change and stores patient clothing, obtain and document vital signs. Assists patients in the post-operative area by obtaining and recording vital signs. Works with RN to provide care to the patients such as assisting with nutritional needs, assisting patients in ambulating, getting to the washroom and getting dressed. Responsible for thoroughly cleaning patient bays after patient has been discharged in both pre-operative and post-operative areas, sanitizing all surfaces and disposing of garbage and linen. Transports patients for discharge. Assists patients to and from the washroom. Retrieves patients families from the waiting area. Stocks supplies in the recovery room as needed, notifying RN and Materials Manager if additional supplies are needed Answers the phone and directs calls as needed, enters data into systems, and performs other duties as assigned by RNs in the per-operative and post-operative care areas. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure Ability to interpret instructions furnished, in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
