JOB SUMMARY

The MRI Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides moderate to complex assistance to patients, including initiating intravenous (IV) access and administering oral contrast. This role is responsible for preparing patients for MRI examinations, which includes checking in/checking out patients, accurately verifying patient information and ensuring proper supply and equipment setup.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrate the ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain the capability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for up to 80% of the workday.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • AHA Basic Life Support Certification
  • MRI Level 1 Personnel
  • Proficiency in intravenous access techniques.
Responsibilities
  • Check in outpatients as needed when clerical staff arent unavailable.
  • Initiate patient screening and changing processes upon check-in, including changing patients into MRI-safe gowns.
  • Communicating clearly and prompt instructions while accurately verifying pertinent patient information, including medical history.
  • Establish and maintain IV access for patients.
  • Enter MRI Safety Questionnaire information into the
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as necessary.
  • Administer oral contrast when required by protocol.
  • Observe universal precautions and maintain current knowledge of infection control guidelines.
  • Assist MRI Technologists with room turnover between patients. Cleaning the scan room after exams are completed and set up for the next exam.
  • Assist Technologist with inpatient positioning and assisting inpatients in and out of the scan room.
  • Comply with all mandatory annual requirements as determined by the Radiology Department.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping in compliance with HIPAA confidentiality and privacy regulations.
  • Conduct Point of Care (POC) tests, such as GFR and pregnancy screening.
  • Assist with pre-screening X-rays as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with MRI Technologists and/or
  • Lead MRI Technologist to ensure the efficient flow of patients and delivery of high-quality care.
  • Maintain MRI Department linen supplies in dressing rooms and blanket warmers; replace linen bags, sharps containers, and trash as needed within the
  • MRI area.
  • Ensure MRI department IV supplies are adequately stocked, including IV contrast, oral contrast, and accessory items.
  • Assist during emergency situations, including codes and contrast reactions.
  • Consistently maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Always practice and maintain proper patient transfer techniques.
  • Maintain the capability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for up to 80% of the workday.
  • Provide customer service to patients by facilitating business processes, check-in and check-out.
