UPMC Somerset is seeking a compassionate and skilled Patient Care Technician to support our Same Day Services team. This role is ideal for candidates with prior patient care experience who are committed to delivering high-quality care in a fast-paced outpatient setting. Schedule: Full-Time (8-hour shifts) Hours: Daylight, Monday–Friday No weekends or holidays required Responsibilities: Provide routine patient care and assist with procedures and daily living activities under nurse or physician direction. Perform core nursing assistant duties including vital signs, blood glucose checks, I&O, weights, specimen collection, and Foley care. Complete at least four advanced tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, simple dressings, catheter care, or IV removal. Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies and report changes in patient status to the RN. Maintain effective communication with team members and contribute to unit-wide activities like call light response and patient transport. Educate patients and families under RN guidance and assist with restraint protocols per hospital policy. Demonstrate professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to workplace safety. Adhere strictly to hospital policies, safety procedures, and infection control standards. Participate in department initiatives, receive feedback constructively, and seek opportunities for growth. Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed to support department operations. High school diploma or equivalent. If no previous hospital or pre-hospital training, successful completion of: UPMC patient care technician class OR Successful completion of EIC training program OR successful completion of first year of clinical work in a nursing program. . Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
