Description Summary: The Patient Coordinator is responsible for obtaining the initial prescription, initial authorization and scheduling/block booking appointments for patient’s treatment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Welcomes patients and visitors in person and on the telephone, answering inquiries or referring to other staff. Obtains initial prescription from referring physician’s office for patient’s treatment, updates patient’s EMR chart with prescription and expiration date. Obtains initial authorization from insurance provider for patient’s treatment, updates patient’s EMR chart with authorization form and expiration date. Schedules appointments for new and existing patients in the electronic medical records system (EMR), ensures all patient paperwork and insurance information in patient’s chart is up to date, providing new paperwork for completion when needed. Coordinate communication with APT staff, referring physicians, and therapists to ensure needs of patients and families are met. Serves as back-up for Front Desk Receptionist as needed. Assists patients checking in for appointments using the kiosk when necessary. Collects co-pays for current visit or balances from prior visits. Opens and sorts mail, distributes faxes; delivers outgoing mail to post office at the end of the day if needed. Other clerical duties as assigned by management. Requirements Education/Licenses: High school graduate or equivalent. Experience & Skills: Must have at least two years of experience in a medical office setting. Must have demeanor and compassion to work with pediatric patients with special needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Prior electronic medical records (EMR) experience helpful. Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information. Bilingual preferred but not required. Physical Needs: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Responsibilities
