Kingsway Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is an approved non-hospital surgical facility providing excellence in patient care for over 60 years. The main Edmonton clinic relocated to its current location in 1998, followed by the launch of a satellite clinic in Grande Prairie in 2005. With multiple surgeons on site, Kingsway is a fast-paced environment where a well-organized, energetic individual can thrive.
Our team is passionate about what they do to ensure patients receive the best possible care. We are looking for a highly motivated, hard-working individual to join our team as a Full-time Patient Educator in the Recovery Room.
This position is in Edmonton, requiring travel to our satellite location in Grande Prairie up to 6 times per year for a 1-week period (Monday-Friday) with other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in a medical or hospital environment preferred.
Able to travel to Grande Prairie location on rotation.
Able to remain calm while working in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Eager to learn.
Team player with effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Prepare and dispense appropriate patient take home materials.

  • Call rides and deliver homecare instructions (written and verbal).
  • Provide post-operative instructions to patients and patient rides.

Assemble post-operative kits for patients.

  • Prepare pamphlets – stickering, inserting special care instructions.
  • Prepare surgical supply bags.

Assist Recovery Room RNs as a runner (i.e., finding charts, getting blankets, grabbing ice packs).

Maintain a clean environment in the Recovery Room.

  • Put away laundry, empty laundry bags off baskets.
  • Remove soiled laundry to receptacles.
  • Wash and sterilize flat surfaces and reusable equipment.
  • Take garbage and recycling out.
  • Change out bio-hazardous bin in Recovery Room for proper disposal.

Change and clean stretchers, floors, and walls as required.

Maintain stock of inventory in the Recovery Room, Operating Rooms, and Consult Rooms.

  • Cut stockinette’s
  • Syringe and Gauze packets
  • IV supplies
  • Assemble fracture kits
  • Assemble T-Tubes
  • Anesthesia supplies in Operating Rooms

Assist with taking post-operative patient calls.
Call/fax pharmacies for prescriptions.
Other duties as assigned by Nursing Manager or management.
