Purpose: Are you looking to help educate patients on their financial obligations? UPMC is hiring a full-time Patient Financial Coordinator to assist the Patient Advocacy department. This position would work Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:30pm. This position is eligible to work from home after training, however this position provides on-site coverage at Western Psychiatric Hospital as needed. Occasional coverage at Children's Hospital and Magee Women's Hospital would be required as needed as well. Patient Financial Coordinators are responsible for the timely and accurate financial counseling of uninsured or underinsured patients. They also assist the patient in applying for Pennsylvania Medical Assistance, the Health Insurance Exchange Marketplace, and UPMC Financial Assistance Program. Responsibilities: Assist with inquiries from walk-in patients regarding billing problems in conjunction with the Patient Financial Services Department. Assist patients with applying for UPMC Financial Assistance program. Ensure that all the regulatory and financial requirements are met. Maintain compliance with quality standards. Monitor the various work lists and work queues to ensure the appropriate follow-up within the expected time periods. Resolve complex outstanding patient issues. Perform benefit education and financial counseling on potential out of pocket transplant related expenses with patients during clinic appointments and subsequent discussion via telephone on an as needed basis. Submit Medical Assistance Presumptive Eligibility applications with the mandated requirement of five days. Maintain department productivity levels. Conduct daily review and analysis of accounts flagged for review. Assist uninsured or underinsured patients with obtaining health care coverage, with either the Health Insurance Exchange Marketplace or Pennsylvania Medical Assistance. Perform duties and job responsibilities in a manner which promotes the core values of UPMC (Quality and Safety, Dignity and Respect, Caring and Listening, Excellent and Innovation, Responsibility and Integrity) in all consumer and UPMC interactions. HS/Equivalent and 4 years of experience OR BS required. Prior experience working with patients. Familiarity with Pennsylvania Medical Assistance, UPMC Financial Assistance Program preferred. Strong PC and computer skills are required. Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills. Must display leadership skills. Must be able to pass the Certified Application Counseling training within the first 4 weeks of employment. Must be dependable, professional, have strong interpersonal skills, be an excellent communicator and have the ability to prioritize the workload.
