Summary of Performance Expectations. Performs patient financial counseling, collections and insurance reporting functions for patient accounts. Serves as liaison between the patient and/or the patient’s representative and the hospital by opening a line of communication in which to offer education and counseling related to financial obligations. Provides estimates of service at bedside. Accepts payment from patient/patient representative for service. Also accepts payment on any additional account associated with hospital service. Education and Credentials: Required Associate degree in Business Administration or related field or a High School diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience in healthcare registration, financial counseling or customer service. Proficient in basic mathematics. Application use of Microsoft office products. Preferred Prior experience in financial functions of hospital or medical business related to accounts receivable. Comprehension of insurance plans and related regulations. Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement issues. Work Experience: Required At least one year of customer service experience. Strong organizational skills. Previous payment collections experience. Given training and on-the-job experience incumbent should be proficient in the basic aspects of the job within three months of employment date. Preferred Healthcare patient accounting operations experience. Knowledge of third party and insurance reimbursement.
