Position Summery The Patient Financial Services Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the financial aspects of patient care are managed efficiently and accurately. This position provides prompt, effective customer service to internal and external customers. The specialist demonstrates knowledge of Revenue Cycle activities including cash transactions, billing and reimbursement while assisting patients in understanding their financial responsibilities. By managing patient accounts and collaborating with internal departments, this role helps to optimize revenue cycle processes while maintaining a high level of patient satisfaction. Ultimately, the Patient Financial Services Specialist contributes to the financial health of the organization by ensuring timely and accurate collection of payments and supporting patients through complex financial interactions. How You’ll Contribute * Interview patients to identify sources of payment for services. * Educate patients on their financial responsibilities and available payment options. * Set up and manage payment plans for outstanding balances. * Verify insurance eligibility and benefits. * Prepare, submit, and follow up on insurance claims. * Resolve claim denials and discrepancies with insurance companies. * Ensure accurate billing and coding in collaboration with medical staff. * Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. * Interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations related to health coverage programs. * Evaluate financial documents to determine eligibility. * Document patient financial information and update records regularly. * Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and internal departments. What we’re looking for * High School diploma or equivalent. * Minimum of 1 year of experience with clerical, financial and/or patient accounting activities and computer operations to include Microsoft office programs and excel worksheets. * Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures, insurance verification, and healthcare regulations. * Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software. * Excellent communication and customer service skills.
