GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Patient Safety Manager leads the implementation strategy and evaluation of patient safety initiatives within the organization. Reporting to the Senior Director of Patient Safety and Quality, this position will lead safety-related strategies aimed at reducing preventable harm, supporting high-reliability principles, and foster innovative approaches that positively impact the culture of safety. The Safety Manager provides leadership in safety event investigations and safety education.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or healthcare related field required
  • Master’s degree in nursing or healthcare related field preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • 5-7 years in healthcare with at least 3 years of experience in patient safety, quality improvement, or risk management. required
  • Experience in acute care facilities preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong familiarity with event reporting systems (such as RLDatis), Just Culture, and psychological safety principles.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills, excellent communication and facilitation abilities.
  • Knowledge of safety science, human factors engineering, and high-reliability principles.
  • Ability to solve problems in a complex and dynamic organization.
    This position has a hiring range of $80,995 - $152,027
Responsibilities
  • Lead patient safety programs across departments that align with organizational goals and processes. Provide training and onboarding support for new associates within the division.
  • Mentor patient safety consultants, provide feedback on event reviews and safety improvement projects.
  • Conduct and oversee safety-related proactive risk assessments and root cause analysis.
  • Monitor trends from safety event report systems, develop action plans based on analytics.
  • Develop and track reports related to key patient safety metrics.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, departmental leaders, and frontline associates to identify system vulnerabilities and innovative solutions.
  • Represent the organization in external safety collaboratives, maintain awareness of best practices and trends in patient safety.
  • Provides guidance, training, and insight to associates on use of the patient safety event reporting system.
  • Provides guidance to clinicians on optimizing the use of the patient safety event reporting system.
