Description

Overview:
The Patient Safety Specialist assists in the development and implementation of patient safety programs. Facilitates cause analysis of actual or near miss events throughout the organization. Provides education, and mentoring to clinical stakeholders. Facilitates multidisciplinary teams to achieve measurable and sustainable improvements in process and systems related to patient safety. Assist in the development of complex clinical risk reduction strategies. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of high reliability principles and strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. In a healthcare/clinical field, preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in the delivery of clinical care in nursing or allied health, required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
  • Current license in nursing or allied health, required.
  • Obtains Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) certification within two years of accepting role, required.
  • Additional Skills (required): Strong written and verbal skills; proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio; ability to self-direct, manage time and resources; ability to facilitate high functioning teams; ability to travel throughout the Novant Health footprint.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and facilitates the investigation, review and disposition of patient safety events though interviews, medical record and literature reviews and utilization of appropriate investigative tools.
  • Utilizes high level organizational skills to manage projects.
  • Provides support of patient safety processes and outcomes to assist clinical and organizational stakeholders with information to improve patient safety.
  • Works, in partnership, with clinical stakeholders
  • Aggregates and analyzes data
  • Identifies opportunities to improve patient safety; identifies trends and patterns related to near miss and actual events; develops conclusions and makes recommendations through data presentations to appropriate committees and/or teams.
